Fred Gallic Bank
Founder, Dies

YPSILANTI — Frederic L. Gal-
lup, retired prominent banker
and businessman in this area, died
yesterday afternoon at his home
at 5541 Carpenter Rd., Pittsfield
township. He was 84.

Mr. Galiup retired from the
banking business in 1927 as vice-
president after organizing the
[People's National Bank of Ypsi-
lanti. From 1889 until 1919, he
was employed at the First Na-
tional Bank "f Ypsilanti, serving
as vice-presid cashier, and
was associate i.he Ypsilanti
Savings Bank briefly.

He later owned and operated a
gasoline and oil business at
TJS-112 and US-23 in Pittsfield
township for 12 years prior to his
retirement from all active busi-
ness.

Born June 29, 1871, in Jones-
ville, he was the son of Horace
M. and Sarah Turk Galiup. When
v^ung he moved to Leslie, Mich.,
•n to Saline where his father,
Baptist minister, preached for
several years.

In 1882 Mr. Galiup moved to
' Brower St. here. He was

aduated from the former Nor-
mal High School here in 1888 and
attended deary Business College
in 1889.

During his stay in this city,
Mr. Galiup was a member of the
State Militia for 12 years, retir-
ing as a first lieutenant during
World War I. He was vice-chair-
man of Uie Washtenaw Patriotic
Service League, treasurer of the
^silanti branch of the American

i Cross, county director of the
\ > ar Preparedness Certificates of
Indebtedness; lieutenant in the
American Protective Association
and an active worker in the Lib-
erty Loan drives.

He was a member of numerous
Masonic organizations and a char-
ter member of the Rotary Club
here.

On Nov. 26, 1924, he was mar-
ried to Harriet Meyers of Den-

Funeral services will be held
at 2 p.m. Friday in the Geer Fu-
neral Home here, the Rev. Ray-
mon B. Bair officiating. Burial
will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral
home starting tonight.
