Burnham House move completed
The historic Burnham house is home.
Last Sunday, workers moved the house from 940 Maiden Lane, where it had stood for 160 years, to a new site at the Washington Heights Street entrance to the University of Michigan's Nichols Arboretum.
Despite one flat tire, the house was moved to the new lot, which is on land leased from Forest Hills Cemetery, by the end of the day.
Workers from Deitz House Moving of Muskegon took Monday off but returned Tuesday to move the house in place, said Mark Carter, project manager for J. C. Beal Construction, which is overseeing the move.
The next step is for the house movers to raise the house in place so masons can build a 9-foot foundation for the structure, Carter said.
The house will be used as an education center for the Arb. The schedule calls for outside work, including the foundation and landscaping, Carter said.
