Construction on the Briarwood Shopping Center at S. State and I-94 is continuing and quickening as the calendar rushes towards the scheduled Oct. 3 opening date. To speed the work the Taubman Company Inc., developer of the center, is asking the city for permission to work on Sundays. The photo shows the work done thus far in the central court area off which branch the various wings of the one million square foot building. The developer is still not certain how many stores will be open by Oct. 3, but one of the three major retailers, Sears, is expected to be ready. A large Penney's store is expected to open later in October, and a Hudson's store will not open until the fall of 1974. About 80 per cent of the stores sites have been released.
