Seek Causes Of Defects - Dr. Gordon C. Brown (center) professor of epidemiology at the University's Medical Center, holds vials containing blood samples from pregnant women that are being examined in a U-M School of Public Health laboratory for virus antibodies in research aimed at finding out if certain viruses cause birth defects. The foundation yesterday presented Dr. Brown with a $54,604 check to continue the research.
