Excavation for the University's new $1,120,000, 4 1/2-deck, 500-car parking structure on Hill between Tappan and E. University, comes within seven feet of the old Mack Residence, now the home of the U-M department of landscape architecture. When completed in June, 1970, the parking structure will provide parking for the U-M's School of Business Administration, School of Education, Law School and College of Architecture and Design. The Mack Residence, formerly a girls dormitory, will remain the headquarters for the department of landscape architecture, according to James F. Brinkerhoff, director of U-M business operations. The 254-foot-long front of the parking structure will be on Hill, with entrance and exit ramps opening on that street. It will contain two stairways and an elevator.
