J. H. Rumsey, 625 Felch St., died this morning in St. Joseph's Mercy hospital, after a brief illness.
He was born in Washington, Ind., and received a life teachers' certificate from Davis county, Ind., to teach school. He started to teach in Washington, Ind., at the age of 17 years, teaching there 15 years, one year at Mitchell, Ind., and four years at Spencer, Ind.
He and Mrs. Rumsey came to Ann Arbor 28 years ago. He was a member of the A.M.E church, Pratt Elks lodge, No. 322, the past exalted rulers' council, No. 64, of the Elks lodge, and Dunbar Community Center.
Surviving are his wife, Cora A.; three children, Miss Corroll D. Rumsey, Miss Roberta J. Rumsey and J. Viehe Rumsey, all at home; a sister, Mrs. Maria Christian of Roxbury, Mass, and three nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the A.M.E. church with Rev. J. W. Wright officiating. The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 o'clock Friday at the church.
