Webb McKinley Becomes Major

Webb McKinley, former state and assistant sports editor of The Ann Arbor News, has been advanced to the rank of major, friends here learned today.

The newsman has been in France since D-day serving with a quartermaster corps attached to a task force.

Son of Mrs Frank McKinley, of Bay City, the major left his job in Ann Arbor in April, 1941 for Army life as a buck private.

Thirteen months later he had a lower berth in the commissioned ranks when he received his gold bar from quartermaster's Officers Candidate School at Camp Lee, Va., and since then, has risen steadily to the rank he now holds.
