Love's Hearing Set For Saturday
Louis Colombo, Jr., Will Defend Slaying Suspect
Ivan Love's arraignment in Municipal Court on charges that he murdered Mrs. Zella McConnell, 37, of 1675 Lexington Rd., has been postponed again - this time until 10 o'clock Saturday morning.
Love yesterday secured an attorney, Louis Colombo, jr., of Detroit, to defend him in the case of the Friday night slaying.
Colombo is the 38-year-old son of the noted Detroit criminal lawyer.
Chief Assistant Prosecutor Edmond DeVine said that Colombo asked him to postpone Love's hearing until Saturday so that the defense attorney could investigate the case more thoroughly.
Colombo said this morning he has "not yet decided on what basis Love's defense will be conducted."
The Detroit lawyer talked with Love for about an hour last night in the County Jail.
Mrs. McConnell was found dead of ten rifle wounds in her home. Love, a 34-year-old unemployed steel worker rooming at the house, has denied the slaying.
He surrendered two hours after the murder.
