Some 200 persons attended the presentation in the East Room of the North Campus Commons. The award is given in recognition of continuing service of persons 65 and over who live in the Ann Arbor area. Miss Beach, 80, a native of Brighton, received her MA in actuarial science from the U-M in 1913. In 1916 she joined the Provident Life Insurance Co. in Bismarck, N.D., where she worked until 1945. She also is a past president of the Women's Association of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Mr. Carpenter, 83, born in Stanford, Ky., attended the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute in Tuskegee, Ala., and was graduated in 1909 as valedictorian of his class. He has been active in the Ann Arbor Ministrial Association and served as its president for two years. He currently devotes his time to visiting and caring for the sick and needy of the community.
