Cook, Floyd G. (Mr. Magoo)
Lakeland, MI
Age 79, passed away April 8, 1996 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI. He was born on May 18, 1916 in Beulah, Michigan, son of Gilman and Ethel (Bishop) Cook. On December 7, 1974 in Ann Arbor, he married Donna J. Van Meer Compton; she survives. Floyd graduated from Thompsonville High School, Thompsonville, MI, Class of 1934. He had been the owner of several service stations, and music was a big part of his life; he was known as Mr. Magoo with his lunch box trumpet. An army veteran of WWII, discharged January 10, 1946, Floyd was a recipient of the Purple Heart. His memberships included Veterans of Foreign Wars Hamburg Post #1224, Ann Arbor Moose Lodge #1253, Northeast Seniors Dominos House, Hamburg Seniors and WASHHH. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Duane (Brenda) Compton of N. Carolina, Norman (Cathy) Compton of Ohio, and Floyd (Kara) Cook Jr. of Ypsilanti; two daughters, Linda (Skip) Shultes of Hamburg and Diane (John) Brock of Chelsea; and 14 grandchildren. Preceded in death by one brother, Harold Cook, and one sister, Eva Mackie. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, 1996 at Shalom Lutheran Church, 1740 East M-36, Pinckney, with Rev. Ronald Rein officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Shalom Lutheran Church Building Fund or Northeast Seniors Dominos House. Arrangements by SHELTERS FUNERAL HOME, Pinckney.
