Hoffman, Stanley L. MD

Ann Arbor, Ml (Formerly of Chelsea and Howell, Ml)

Age 95, died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He was born June 4, 1913 in Kangkei, Korea, where his parents, Clarence S. and Katherine Emma (Davies) Hoffman, were missionaries. Dr. Hoffman earned his BA from Wooster College in Wooster, OH and his MD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1938. He interned at Henry Ford Medical Hospital and did his residency at Pontiac General, followed by eight years of medical service with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in AZ and MT. He later practiced with the Byron Road Medical Group in Howell. Dr. Hoffman is a former member of the Howell First Presbyterian Church, Howell Gideons, and Howell Rotary. He is a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor. He has served as a missionary to China (1946-48) and a medical missionary to South Africa for the Evangelical Alliance (1976-77), an Elder, a Deacon, and adult Sunday School teacher. On May 7, 1938, he married Mary Kepler in Philadelphia, PA on May 7, 1938, and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2000. Other survivors include two daughters, Jeannette (Don) Faber of Ann Arbor, Katherine F. Hoffman of New York, NY; one son, Kenneth R. (Jan) Hoffman of Amherst, MA; one brother, Rev. Robert E. Hoffman of TN; two sisters, Katherine Stevens and Claire Barth, both of NJ; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty and brother, John.
