Ironwood, June 19. - The present epidemie of typhoid fever which now prevails here is the worst ever known in this state. All of the public schools have been closed on account of the disease and all avaüable buildings turned into hospitals. Physicians are falling sick theniselves from overwork and loss of sleep. The cases number over 400 now and deaths average from six to ten daily. All steps taken so f ar 1 o stop the ravages of the disease have proved ineffectuaL All of the mines on the Gogebic range are practically closed. People are leaving by carloads every day. Business is entirely suspended. Many citizens blame Superintendent Southers, of the water works, for the bad water, which is causing the epidemie. It is charged that he has not used filtrs for nine months. The feeling against him is very high, and personal violence has even been threatened in spme quarters. Mr. Southers is out of the city at present.
