J. O'Brien, of Northfield, was called here last week to attend nis sister, who is dangerously ill. A Germán school house is being erected in our village. The merchants of our village have agreed to close their stores at 8 o'clock p. m., except Saturday. Mrs. James Lyman and Miss Lizzie Lavey attended their cousin's funeral in Pinckney, Wednesday. Blanche Bell and sister spent Saturday and Sunday with their cousins, Alma and Bessie Howard, ■oí Hudson. Some of tiie Maccabees from here uttended the entertainment at Chel sca last Friday evening. Miss Eva Rockwell, of Kosters, spent last week visiting friends. Mrg, A. J. Collyer has returned to Hamburg, after a three weeks' stay here. Geo Francisco and chum were at the lakes l'hursday. R. Erwin andtwife are home from thuir visit to his brother in Leslie. Bill Lavey, of Jackson, is here on a visit. Albert Youngs, wife and baby spent Friday and Saturday with W. Carpenter. Mrs. L. Boyden, Mrs. T. Bell and Mrs. Minnehan spent Thursday in this vicinity. Business called Mr. Holder to Hamburg the last of the week. Mrs. F. Warner and Mrs. T. L. Smith visited in Howell the first of the week. Mrs. C. Taylor and Mrs. Win. Barrett, of Unadilla, spent last week with A. Taylor and wife. T. McQuillan and family were in Ann Arbor, Friday. The dance at Mrs. Joseph McGuinness', Friday evening was attended by sixty couples. Emrnett Lavey spent Tuesday with his cousin, Burt Harris, of South Futnam. Miss K. McCabe was a Detroit visitor last week. Miss Hinofcley and little friend spent the Sabbath in Marión. F. F. Taylor and wife, of East Tawas, have been visiting relatives here. John Hill and daughter, Eva, spent the last of the week near Whitmore Lake. Wm. Gregory and family entertained friends last Sunday. B. McCauley and wife were at Birkett last Sunday. Miss Mabel Straith entertained her friend over Sunday. Mr. Pidd and family were Lima visitors the first of the week. Mr. Lamphear spent Friday in Detroit. Mrs. Geo Bell entertained her sister from Hamburg, Friday. Mr. Deland addressed the people at the Birkett school house last Friday evening. Mrs. Seney, of Hillsdale, is visiting friends here. B. Culy has returned from Grand Rapids. Mrs. Quish and family are the guests of her parents in Grand Rapids. S. James and family have moved into the house recently occupied by H. W. Newkirk and family. Mrs. A. Davis is home from Stony Creek. Born - to Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Clark, a son, Oct. 20. C. Green and sister visited their sister in Hamburg the first of the week. H. Butler has gone to visit friends in Livingston county. L. C. Rodman was at the county seal Monday last. A. Dancer shook hands with his many Ann Arbor friends, Monday. Miss M. Taylor spent Sunday in Livingston county. F. Murray was home from Chelsea over Sunday. John Foran was called here from Chicago by the severe illness of his mother. Henry Warren, of Muskegon, is visiting his old home. Henry Fleming and mother spenr the Sabbath with her sister in Podunk. Miss Ella Drew is the guest of friends near Portage Lake. Miss F. Bostwick and friend spent the Sabbath here. Raffles are the latest in this vicinity, last Monday night at J. Roberts'; Tuesday night at J. Howard's and J. Armstrong's. Mr. Birkett has rented one of his houses to a family from Detroit.
