Figaro tells au aruusing story about M. Ricard, the minister of justice. Sonie time ago he bought two baunchea of kangaroo at a shop where frozen laeats from Australia are sold. He had them served up "a la sauce poivade. " His guests, who were curious to try this "plat exotique," found it auything but suited to their taste. The kangaroo had a ruost peculiar flavor. M. Rcard was uaturally much vexed. He made a cotuplaiut to the shopkeeper aud asked him to taste the reruains of the dish. It was then discovered that the haunches, had been cooked in lamp oil instead of3olive oil, but it is not kuown who made this substitution iu the minister's cuisine.
