A Legal Contest For $125,000
It will be remeinbered that Dr. Elizaebth H. Bates, of Port Ohester, N. Y., who died recently, left $125,000 to tb.9 Uuiversity of Michigan to establish and endow a ohair for the diseaaes of womeD aud children. At the meeting of the regenta held in thia city Wednesday, they were served with a notioe tbat the seoond oonsina of Mis. Bates, who wonld have fallen heir to her property in the absence of a will, will oontest the validity of the will. The regents decided to eraploy Benton Hanchett, the oelebiated Saginaw lawyer to look out for the interests of the univeraity and, if possible, procure the payment of the legacy.
