Justice Duffy's court is not idle. Tuesday afternoon tliree meu were up for being intoxicated. Lucius Anderson, who lives just outside the city, was sentenced to pay the costs or 10 days in jail and stood committed. Edward Fair aud Charles Ford, two hoboes, were well loaded down. One of them wheu asked how he got drunk said he was not f eeling well and thought he wotüd drown his sorrows. They had no money and are each spending 10 days in jail. The assau.lt and battery case against George Morton on complaint of his wit' e was tried Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Morton claimed that he hit her on the mouth with a game bag. Arthur Browu appeaied for the prosecutiug attorney and Densrnore Cramer for the defendeut. The jury went out and wrestled with the case for two hours but were unable to agree and the case will be retried on Nov. 29. Tuesday Mrs. George Morton, the complainiug witness in the last case was arrested on the charge of beiug a womau of the town, plead guilty and was sent to jail in default of paying a fine of $5 and costs. She will remain in jail 30 days unless she pays the fine, Wednesday the examinatiou of Herbert Audette, the young boy charged with an atrocious assault, was on the application of the defendant adjourued until Nov. 30. In Justice Duffy's court yesterday, Jerome Lane made his appearance, a clean looking, well-dressed man charged with being drunk "feloniously" and "with malice and aforethought" yesterday. When the complaiut was distinctly read to hun he pleaded not guilty thereto and his case was set for Dec. 1. In the mean time he was left in the care of the tip-staff , Zenus Sweet, to be produced ou that occasion. The arrested man lias a good. trade and is said to be a good workman but he had amassed $40, which he had been endeavoriug with success to spend.
