Mr. Willits, the representativo in congTW in this, the 2 J district, has reoeived notice to appoint a caudidate for the cadetship at West Point belonging to thÍB district, for the term comnienoing Juno, 1881. Up to tliis date lio has received thirteen applications for tha place. The appointnient will be made after a competitivo examination by a board of gentlemen to bc selected by Mr. Willits. said exaiuination to be held at Monroe, the latter part of August Notice of the time and place will be given hereafter. The cadot must be an actual resident of the dUtriot ; must be bctween the ages of 17 and 22; must be of a perfectly sound physical constitution, without detective or gans of any kind. He must also paes a thorough examiualion in reading, writing, orthography, arithmctic, grammar, EnglisH cnmposition, geography - particularly that of the western hemisphere ; history - partiouWly United States liistory, beginning with ihu colonizatioii of this country. In uil these the examinatioo will be critioal and oxhautive, as the standard at West l'nitit is vory high, and the chancos of rcieotioo very great.
