The following is the expenence ef a meobtnio conceruing the benefits of a newspaper : Ten years ago I lived in a town in Indiana. On returning houie one - for I am a carpenter by trade- I saw a little girl leaving my door, and I asked iny wife who she was. Sho said Mrs. Harria had sent after a newspaper which my wife had borrowed. As we sat down to tea, my wife said to ine by name : "I wish you would subscribe for the newspaper, it is so much comfort to me when you are away from home." "I would like to do so," said I, "but you know I owo a pay ment on the house and lot. It will be all 1 can do to meet it." She replied "If you will 111 sew for the tailor to pay for it." I subscribed for the paper. It carne in due tinie to the shop. While resting and looking over it I saw an advertisement of the county commissioner to let a bridge that was to bo built, l put in a bid for the bridge, and the contract was awarded to me, 011 which I cleared $300, which enabled me to pay for my house and lot easily, and for the newspaper. If I had not subscribed for the newspaper I should not have known anything about the contract, and should not have met the payment on my bouse and lot. A mcchanic never loses anything by taking a newspaper.
