The Lansing Kepublican, in a recent issue, gives an extenüed article in respect to the public services of Gov. Felch, of tuis city, and in it occurs tuis paragrapli, which will be read with interest by rnany of our readers: During Governor Felch's administraron the state sold the Michigan Central and the Michigan Southern rallroad to eaatern rómpanle. Belore tliat the road8 were construcled and owaed and operated by the State of Michigan. The Central rond was completed as fur as Kaluinazoo, and the Nniitimrii iis fur as Hlllsdale. They were poorly equlpped, and conHldcrably run down under state management. The (overnor went over the Southern with repreRentatlves of the Kuxlvrn linyera at a rate of 30 miles an hour, In order to lmprexs the visltors tlntt the road wat safe. Ue rememberH that trip as agelng hlm luore tima iniy other experlence of hls llfe. The rails were the old strap lron Kurt, the road rough, and every Instant lie expected a "snükehead" to come up througli the floor of the rocking and shaklng car, and a general smash up to occur. The engineer was a reckless fellow, chosen tor the trip on that very account, uud he "let thlngs rip." Hut the party got throuKh suii-ly, and the bargaln was concluded. TIn n the Governor look a slow train home. It inay not be generally known, but the tact remuiiip, just the sanie, that tlie pólice of Ann Arbor are enforcing the laws. Haloons are closed at the proper nour at night, and on Hutulays. This arrangement is as it should be, and CliiefSipley deserves credit fortlie maDly and Jirm stuud he lias taken upon this questlon. The laws ghould be obeyed, f they are good and just Iaw9 - if they are bad lawsan enforcement would produce the desired rcsult of their repeal. Saloon keepers, llke other business men, should be satisfied (and the large mujoiïiy certainly are) with doinj; business during legitímate hou rs.
