Taking it for granted that but little if any of it will bo gathcrod from the dialoyal States, we may simplify the matter by supposing that it will opérate upou oniy about twenty millions of people. Tho íesulf, therefore, will be one dollar for eac-h man woman and ehildiu the States whiofa stand by tlie Union. Thia is a mere trido wheu compared with the onda to be attained by the burilen. It will fall principally upon those best ablo to bear it, and upou articlea of luxury. It is true that the indirect tax upon tea, sugar and coffoo tuuulios the hunible as well as tho wealthy, but the effect will be to -duce a curtaihnent of other expenses in niatters not cssential to either health or comfort The President of tho United Otates will pay aoven hundrod and twentysix dóHars, and each member of thc Cabiaet two liundred and sixteen dollars.
