We are permitted to give publieify to the following extract of a letter fron Capt. I. 8. Hatch of the lst Michigan Infnntry, relating to the death o Lieut. A. M. Ladd : Washington, July 13th, 1863. "I aviiil myself of the opportunity af'er tbo battle at Gettysbmg to teil you that I am still alive, thoiigh in hospital. You have probably heard that Lieut. Ladd, of Co. K, was killed Poor Ladd ! Í saw him when he fel!. He as standing not over ten feet on mv right; he íell on his back, and parlly rolled over on his face. As soon as the fire slackened I ran to him, and tnrned him over on his face. He was alive, knew me, and said, "John I am in my last fight." I asked him where he was hurt, but making no answer I exnmined and found he was shot through tho bovvels. He was carried to tho rear, and died in about three hours. Ourown men b'iried him about one mile from the field. Thus has another of my best Iriends been added to the list of those who have given all to their country. He was a good soldier, brave as tho bravest. I can asstire.you and you can assure i ia friendf that he never failed to do liis duty; he stood up like aman; was ahvays foreinosr, when ever I saw him that day, and when he feil he gave no shriek of fear."
