-A recent order of the War Uoparttnent gives official au thnrization to the practice, whioh has become tilmost universal among army officers; with rcfcrenoo to the wearing of badges iudicative ol rank. It por mits officers lo dispense with ehoulderstraps, and tho preacribed insignia of rank on their horse eqnipnients. The marks of rank to be worn on the shoulder-strap, will henceforth be worn on the shoulder. They will also be permittod to vvenr overcoats, pantaloons, etc., similar to tbose worn by private soldiers ; nor are ornamenta on the hats, overcoats, fnrsige-caps, sasbes or epanlots
