Chief-Justice Salmón P. Citase diedat the rosidenco of his daughter, Mrs. Wv. Hoyï, No. 4 West Tkirty-tbird street, New York, at lO.o'clock A. lï., on Wednesday, of paralysis, aged 65 years the 13:h day of January last. Ho arrived in New York froin Washington on Saturday morninglüst, ín unusually good healtb, and coirfcmplated a visit to Boston and tl.ence a trip to Colorado, stopping en route to visit bis old fdends at Cincinnati. Sunday he visited Central Park, Monday received calis from friends and was out on Pifth averiuo,and Monday cvening retired to his room seomingly in good health and spirits. Tuesday morning hn was discovered in an unconscïoüs state by a servan t, and though medical aid WM promptly called restoration proved impossible. The career of Chief-Justice Chase is known to cvcry intelligent reader, and though of lato years he has been reviled by old assoeiates and friends ho was unquestionably one of the purost men in public life.
