From the Detroit Free Fress. Michigan Centeal Cattle Yaeds Monday, Fob. 23. $ The movement of stock receivcd a check (tur ng the past week by a decline in prices, and snippers are moving cautiously in their operations. In tliis branch oí commerce the tendency is to extremes, and no sooner one extreme has been reached than prices recede to the other. This is the present state of the market, abundantly made manifest in transactions. Keceipts about corresponding to the same period last year, the quality being also about the same. Receipts for the week and corresponding week last year were as followu : Cattle. Hogs. Sheep. Week onding Feb. 24, 1873, 23ó f480 4,050 Week onding Feb. 23, 1874, 323 370 5,080 From other States 1,312 head of cattle were received for transhipment. Of hogs 235 head and sheep 3 car loads. In this regard shipments are becoming more regular, a large quantity passing through the city without unloading hcro. CATTLE. The flne quality heretofore shippcd to this markct are beiug aupplemented by a run of the poorest kind. There were but a iew lots from whlch maiiy real choice beef cattle could be selected. Butchers wero consoquently quite restricted in their purchases. Prices were off, too, about 1-2 c, owing to the lightness of the demaiid ; the fine qualities brought but $5a5 25 ; medium qualities were hardly salable at $4a4 25 wWle thiu cattlo sold at Ï2 50a3. But fewdrovers realized enough to defray all expenses. noos. Scarcely anytliing iu tliis line was doue during the week owing to the continued absence of suitable grades. Light weights which did ar rive were sold at $5a5 25, Heavy weights con tinue to be sent to firma here irom Northwester marketf and are quotable at $5 50. SIIEEP There v:is u fine run oí quahties t.liis week bul pric88 were considerably off ; under the depression lots sold at 1-2 cent below last woek's priecs. This is understood to be attributed to a glut in the Eastcrn markets during tho past wo -weeks. Matton venders liere claim that thcy were unable to realize tho money paid for sheep in the yards. First-classsheep, averaging 105 lbs., are quotable at 96, and medium grades, averaging 80 to 90 lbs., are quotable at $5a5 25. It jrill not be profitable to ship poor grades to this mrirket. Kino's Cattlk Yaiids, } Detroit, Monday evening, Feb. 23. $ CATTLE. A fair average number of cattle were offered this morning, and the quality was about equal tothat of the previous two weeks, fout sales were ratlier slow, and prices about 1-2 cent off.
