Au evidenco of the courage and pug nacity of the English buil dog was show in n reraarkable mannor a few days since, in England. A dog of this description who had. never been accustomed to se traius itntil lately, has taken a great aver sion to them, and has made a point o chasing them whenever he has had a opportunity of doing bo, but, of course without being onabled to catch them On the morning in question, being ou with his owner's brother, in the vicinit; of the Somerset and Dorset railway, be tween the Midford and Wellow station the early train f rom Bath was heard to be rapidly approachiug. The dog, as usual, was off dircctly. The gentleman kuowing they were in advance of th train and fearing the dog would b killed, called loudly to him to come back ; but quite in vain. He then fan to see what would bo the consequenoe of the brute's folly, and was just in time to see tho dog boldly charge the cow-lifter of tho engine and disappear. The gentleman then cJosed his eyes for one moment, not wishing to see the dog's remains torn to pieces, and on opening them the next moment, much to his eurprise, he distinetly saw the dog under the rapidly passing carriages, evidently waiting au opportunity to make a dash botween the wheels, but their, to him, unusual velocity rather bothered him ; he, therefore, remained uutil the last carriage had passed over him, and then emorged, wagging his tail as though he had done something to De fcaUEed about, and liaving sustained only a few outs about the head, and losing all tho hflir from one side of his tail.
