- The animal meeting of the Studeuts' Lecture Association waB helti on Saturday last, at 9 o'clock A. M., and the following offiuers were elected for the ensuing year : President, George S. Bishop, fiillsdale ; Vice President, N. D. Hmkley, Fredouia, N. Y. ; Corresponding Secretary, Heury C. McDougall, Ypsilanti ; Kücording Secretary, H. B. Wamsley, Huntington, Ind. ; Treasurer, L. C. Hale, Hamburg ; Asst. Treasurer, J. J. Reed, Blackberry, 111. ; Committee, (Jhas. E. Lowry, Hackettstowu, N. J. senior; Lewis K. Webb, Kalamazoo, junior ; William H. Butts, Ann Arbor, sophomore. - Tha Alpha Nu Society, the oldest literary aociöty iu the University, had a programm'e oí more than usual interest for the meeting of last Friday evening. (i. W. Browning delivered an oration on " Democracy in Europe." The question disoussed was, " Resolved, That the Amencau caucas system, which controla the party maiorities, ouuht to be abolished." Gr. X. ürcutt taking the affirmative and H. C. McDüugall the negative. The "Sodality " furnished good inusic for the occasion. --The ÍSeniors have deterininod 011 a coucert on Mouday evening oí coinmencemeut week, and upon a reception on Tueaday evening, with the usual exercises of class day. Thia action leaves the aturam and the several classes which have arrauged for re-unions to get in their meetings as best they can. A few yeurs henee the seniora will look back upon their action as a little seliish. The Atlantic Monthly comea early to our table. The principal poetic attraction is the " Hymn," written by Wliittier tor the Centennial Exposition, and suiiï at the opening exercisea on Wednesday. The muaic, compoaed by John K. Paiue, accompauios, and can be had ouly by purchasing the number. There are other poems by Paul H. Hayne, T. B.
