A Maine man, boing ref iised by a widowed lady for whom he worked, and to whom he made an offer of marriago, went into the kitchen, emptied a pail of wator on the floor, spread ont a red bnndanna haudkerchiof on it, tied auothor around his neck, laid down in the puddle, and uttered a sound half way be tween the notes of a dying ewan and a calf with the colic. The lady of the liouse went to the spot aa soon as she could, but when sho stoppod in the water and in tho dim light of the morning saw Tuttle stretchod out among the red stulï, she was so terriñed with his sanguinary dppearanco that site went into a siwoon, 'rom -which she was not rostored ubIü ;hreebonrs had elapsod. Tuttle was arrested and put micler bonds to keep the aeaoe - so ended his dream of love.
