Russian Soldiers
Russian soldiers upon marches sing to while away tedium, and the solos, always in a minor key, and monotonous, aro varicd by very livcly bureta in the chorus. The solo singer aften improvises, and is usually accompanied by a man with a fiddle, a triangle, a clarionet, or by one who whistles. The ordinary uniform of the infantry consista of a kepi, a tunic, and pantaloons of dnrk greun cloth, the latter garment being insprted in the boots. The gray overcoat is carried in a rol 1 at the back, from the right shoulder to tlie loft hip. Two oaxtridge boxes are attached to the leather belt in frout. A canvas havereack hangs at tlie right bcliind the bayonet, und the kuapsack covers the back.
