A mob of tho Christian popalation, inRtigated by a lot oí men in debt to the Jews, whó circulated the story that the Jews pcrf ormed unholy and horrible rites at their feast of the Passover, took posnession of the town, rifled the shops and dwellings of the Jews, maltreated the woinen, killed eighi or ten men wlio attempted to defend the honor of their wives, beat and woundec scores of others, forced open the doors of the two synagogues, destroyed tho ark and the scrolls of tho law and üreé the building. This is not tho tirst time thut the Ohristians there have takoi} this method of paying their debts.
