The principal event of the past week in this city has been the re-instatemen of Dr. Eose to a position in tho tlniver sity, to bo knowa as assistant professo of Physiological Chetuistry, at a 9alary of $1600. Regenta Eynd.Duffield.Maltz and Climio votedin favor, Cutcheon anc S. S. Walker in opposition. Two were absent. Thisaction wasinpursuanee ofa com munication signed by the Senate ani House oommittees, calling upon the Ee gents, in tho annexod paragrapn, so to do: We believe and are satisfied that the great majority of the peoplo demandthe restoration of Dr. Eose, whoni they believe not only to be an innocent but a deeply injured man. As therepresentatives of the people, and in our preseni position, in soine sense representing the Legialature, -wo look upon the history of Dr. Eose, bis gallantry on the field of battle, a hmb giveu to hia country, a orippled patriot, the exccsaive woik ha perfonned in the laboratory, hia economic! roethod of living, his acknowledgod poverty, yet posses9ing the con ■ fideuce of nearly all who knew hiin, a quiet. meek and modest man, a good citizen, and an estimable Chriatian gentleman. Believing this we most reapectfully ask your honorable board to restore hini to a position in the University suited to liis talents and industry. By so doing you show your senae of juatice ; your magnanimity bocomes apparent; yourdisposition to correct the wrongs of tho past is clearly evidenoed to the people, and thereby you will be enabled to settle inany of tbo difficulties surroundingtheinstitution. Thus you will have the confidnnco of the people, tho support óf this joint committee, and that satisfaction which ever emanates from the discharge of duties impartially demanded by justice and equity. With these suggestions, hoping you will carefully weigh, we await your action. H. C. HODGE, J. B. MOORE, Senate Committee. JJJ.TUJH. "HKLiFS, D. W. SHARTS, E. ï. HILL, GEORGE PRAY, JOHN J.
