JACKSON - A car ran off a road, struck a tree and caught fire early today, killing three Jackson men and injuring a fourth, police said.
Police identified the victims as the driver, Andrew Swanson, 19, and his passengers, David Blankenbaker, 20, and Clifford Bumphis, 29.
A third passenger, Gregory Cichy, 21, was taken to the intensive care unit at Foote Hospital in Jackson with severe fractures.
Police said the accident happened at 1:10 a.m. in Grass Lake Township.
Swanson and Blankenbaker were dead at the scene, police said. Bumphis was flown to the Ann Arbor burn center, where he died about 5:30 a.m.
