Vander Laan, Ryan Named To Panels
LANSING - Senate MajoriIty Leader Robert Vander ? I Laan has been elected to the (i 1 10 member executive comI mittee of the National ConferI ence of State Legislative Leaders (NCSLL). Vander Laan, Kentwood Republican, was elected FriI day at the final day of the [ conference in San Diego, Calif. In another action at the conference, House Speaker William A. Ryan, D-Detroit, was named one of six cochairman of a Democratie committee of state legislators to assist the presidential ambitions of U. S. Sen. Edmund S. Muskie, D-Maine. Ryan's appointment to the committee is in line with [ previous support given the Maine Democrat by Michigan's U. S. Sen. Philip A. Hart. Vander Laan, after his election to the executive committee, said the coordination of legislative programs through the conference will benefit Michigan citizens as well as those of other states. "Several recommendations endorsed by NCSLL relating to welfare reform and revenue sharing have been incorporated i n t o national proposals supported by President Nixon," Vander Laan said.
