FOR THE MOST PART, Michigan voters have had their minds made up for them on the Daylight Savings Time question. There are only two states in the Union which have exempted themselves from the Federal Uniform Time Act. That's one reason it would be madness for Michigan to vote "no" on DST. If we go off DST, Michigan will be marching to a different tune than the other states. The confusión will be monumental, and we'll be going through that business again of not knowing what time it is. The proposition on the ballot reads: "Shall the State of Michigan observé daylight savings time?" The response by the voters should be in the affirmative. We k n o w that some groups, namely farmers and parents of small appear to have legitímate gripes. It's dark these days when the youngsters trip off to school. And maybe, we say maybe, there are quite a few households in which young children have trouble getting to sleep because "it's still light outside." But we know, too, that the DST issue has been obscured with a lot of emotionalism and spurious argument. With all due respect for those cows who get crossed up by irregular milking hours, we don't think the farmers suffer unduly by year-round DST. Nor do we buy any of this nonsense about "God's time," and how man is interfering with nature. IT'S ABOUT TIME some people acknowledged one important fact. Geography is the biggest villain of all. Michigan is a time zone nightmare. Geographically, we ought to be in the Central time zone, but we're in Eastern instead. That's where we stay. There are sound economie rea-l sons for staying on DST, too. The pleasure - and - recreation industrjH profits; cash registers throughoutj Michigan jingle. Next to the sparei time enthusiasts and sportsmen] the dissenting groups must be conl sidered a minority. I Vote "yes" on ballot proposall No. 2. It will keep Michigan marching to the same tune as the rest of the country. Let's end the confusión over clocks.
