Glass Collection Off To Fast Start
The Owens-Illinois ' ' G 1 a s s Bottle Recycling Station" is oif to a "smashing" start. First day operations at the station, in the Ann Arbor Constru-tion Company offices at 221 Felch St saw 122 carloads of glass, amounting to 16,919 pounds, dumped into the collection boxes and paid for at a half-penny a pound. And the word apparently is spreading fast about the opening of the station. Already this morning a number of cars were i lined up with baskets, sacks, and barrels full of glass to be - m w m r - recycled. Several Owens-Illinois officials, as well as two full-time employees and several ENACT volunteers, are manning the station this week to take care of the glass which people have collected since the first special two-day effort at Arborland in mid-June. The initial rush this week is expected to taper off soon, but in the meantime the personnel at the station have their hands full. ENACT has been calling its volunteer list to round up more people to help. .
