William Tate, an elderly man living on East Liberty street, was found last Saturday evening at the bottom of the stairs leading up to his room, lying partially on his face, He was dead when found by bis son, who returned from his work at half past nine. He had not been well for a long time and had been afïïicted with spells of dizziness. Saturday evening, it was noticed that he was somewhat dazed. He sat down lo the supper table with hishaton. After supper he went out into the yard, ïaked up a few leaves and then went up stairs to his room where he lay down on his lounge. ïhis was the last heard of him. He was there at half past eight. Evidently he had gotten up and attempted to go down stairs. He had run against a mirror and caught the shade in the window at the head of the stairs in an effort, probably, to save himself. The shade was found with him at the bottom of the stairs. Mrs. Cole, who slept ia the house, heard no noise of anyoue falling and opinión is divlded as to whether he slid down the stairs or whether he tottered down in a dazed way until near the bottom and then feil. The physicians attributeó his death to heart disease with which he was afïïicted. Coroner Clark imparnelleda jury and an inquest was held, rendering a verdict of heart disease. Mr. Tate was seventy-five years of age, a retired farmer of Scio. His son, Wellington Tate, is a clerk in Moore's book store.
