WHEN NELLIE GIVES MILK HER DAY HAS JUST BEGUN because nine-year-old Phyllis Marie Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Miller, Route 1, Gregory, thinks Nellie should exercise periodically. Nellie has other ideas, but it doesn't do her any good because Phyllis climbs on one of those stumps you see in the left background and slides on her back. The steering is done with the stick Phyllis is holding in her right hand in this picture.

Cucumber Seed Threshing On The Clayton Carpenter Farm, October 1938
Year:
1938
Published In:
Ann Arbor News, October 12, 1938
Caption:
UNUSUAL THRESHING OPERATION: This picture shows a threshing outfit that is seldom used in Washtenaw county or vicinity. It was taken on the Clayton Carpenter farm on Chilson Rd., three miles north of Lakeland, where nine acres of cucumbers were ground up for seed last week. The cucumbers are being shoveled into a hopper by Willard Wiltse, a neighboring farmer. The seed and juices are sifted out in the revolving wire cage, falling into a moat lined with gunny sacking, and the residue is being shoveled away by Mr. Carpenter. The horse at the right is operating a treadmill, which turns the grinder and sifter.
