ONLY PART OF IT: The above collection of worn-out machinery, old vehicles and just plain metal junk formed a small part of the scrap, totaling more than 100 tons, "harvested" in South Lyon yesterday. The salvage campaign, sponsored by the South Lyon Kiwanis club, was climaxed with an open-air festival, at which the entire village celebrated, last night.

NOT ALL JUNK: Scrap to help win the war was the main feature in last night's Kiwanis club-sponsored junk harvest festival at South Lyon which brought in more than 100 tons of precious scrap metal but just to prove that there is more than junk in the village the four girls pictured above posed in front of the scrap pile for The News photographer. They are, left to right on the ground, Jeddy Bradley, South Lyon High school senior and Colleen Foreman, Cleary College student from South Lyon. Shown standing on the wagon which South Lyon boy scouts hauled around the village in their junk-collecting efforts are Jo Ann Bradley, South Lyon High sophomore, at the left, and Pat Arms, head of the village war rationing board, at the right.

SCRAP GRIST FOR THE STEEL MILLS: Henry Chamberlain, of Webster township's Boyden school on Jennings Rd., just off Joy Rd., drives a tractor hauling a load of scrap metal collected by the pupils. The older pupils have been combing the surrounding farms to collect such things as old silo-filters and iron wagon wheels, according to their teacher, Miss Gertrude A. Doorn, who adds: "The rural schools are in the scrap, too."
