Rural Women View Period Dresses: When members of Washtenaw county home economics groups saw a parade of ancient styles during their Achievement day program at Masonic temple, they laughed -- just as their granddaughters and great-granddaughters will laugh at 1938 styles half a century or more from now. In the top picture are three of the outstanding costumes shown in the "Pageant of the Periods" staged by clubs of district 3. At the left is Mrs. Walter Mast of Ann Arbor wearing a Puritan costume representative of the year 1730. Mrs. George Henning of South Lyon, center, is wearing the dress that Mrs. Jay Smith of Scio township wore on her wedding day 52 years ago. At the right is Mrs. Alvin Marsh of Scio in a hand made dress worn by Mrs. T. W. Wing of Scio township in 1825. Mrs. Marsh directed the pageant.
