BIRD IN THE CAGE: "Tweetie Pie" and "Sylvester" of cartoon fame are characterized in this homecoming display fashioned by men of Theta Xi fraternity at 1345 Washtenaw Ave. The bird rocks back and forth in the cage, which takes the form of the "Little Brown Jug," and the cat moves up and down while appropriate music plays over a public address hookup in the house.

POISON FOR MINNESOTA: Three witches stirred a potent brew in the Little Brown Jug outside Helen Newberry House, dormitory for women at 432 S. State St. The display, part of traditional homecoming festivities, paraphrased Shakespeare's MacBethian witches with "Double, double; toil and trouble, Minnesota burn, Michigan bubble."
