DEATH CONFIRMED

LT. W. R. SADLER IS REPORTED DEAD

Official notification of the death of her husband, reported missing in the Pacific theater of operations since the summer of 1944, has been received from the Navy department by Mrs. Walter Robert Sadler of 1401 Lincoln Ave.

Lt. Sadler, USN, son of former Ann Arbor Mayor Walter Sadler, was a gunnery and torpedo officer aboard the submarine USS Golet, which failed to return to Midway island from a patrol mission off the northeast coast of Honshu in the summer of 1944.

A graduate of Ann Arbor High school, Lt. Sadler attended the University of Michigan, where he was a member of Beta Chi fraternity and received an appointment to Annapolis, graduating in 1941. After serving a tour of duty on the USS North Carolina in the Pacific, he returned to attend submarine school in New London, Conn., in 1943, and was later stationed for a time in Manitowac, Wis.

The lieutenant’s mother and father, Lt. Col. and Mrs. Walter Sadler, are now in Salt Lake City, Utah, and are expected to return to Ann Arbor about March 1, when Col. Sadler will resume his duties as a member of the civil engineering staff, University of Michigan

Lt. Sadler has two brothers, Dan and Clifford. His wife is the former Margaret Whitker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Whitker of 1401 Lincoln Ave.
