This year's outstanding eight-grade girl chosen from St. John's school to place the crown is Bonnie Samar. Serving as page boys holding her train are Skipper Diegel (left, above) and Michael Rickelmann. Before the crowning ceremonies, children of the school formed a living Rosary which extended throughout the church as each recited prayers and lit a candle.

Old Lohr Homestead: This house at 4448 Lohr Rd. was built during the Civil War and is one of Pittsfield township's best preserved old houses. The two-family dwelling at 300-acre farm is owned jointly by Mr. and Mrs. Julius Schnirring and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Diuble, relatives of the first Lohr to occupy the place. The house has more than 200 hard-carved brackets, on the exterior of the home. It was built during the Civil War.

Sparks from a coal stove which landed on the tar shingle roof apparently started the fire shown above. It destroyed the one-story brick home of George Luckhardt on Lohr Rd., just north of Ellsworth Rd. yesterday afternoon. Efforts by the Saline fire department to save the dwelling were thwarted by a whipping wind that spread the blaze rapidly.

They will be quartered here in these tents until about Jan. 1, when they will go to Camp Tioga, about 10 miles east of Camp Beauregard. They also will be housed in tents there.
