Wearing the safety patrol boy's white belt of authority is usually the trust of the elementary schools' elder classmen - the sixth graders. But at Fritz School, third graders took over the job this year, and ably too, says Principal Louise Ritsema. Fritz acquired the youngest safety patrol squad in the city this year, because it had to send its higher grades to other city schools for lack of space. Eight-year-old Roger Holcomb, one of the Fritz squad, is shown above guiding his fellow pupils across Maple St. at the lunch hour.

Wall extends off Broadway from the center toward the lower left, while Canal is opposite the motel, adjacent to the Detroit Edison Co. power plant (upper left). The General Motors Corp., which owns this motel, plans to erect another 50-units to the rear of the project under construction. The structure which stood on this site was one of the older buildings in the city.

The display, "150 Years of Dolls", is being held to raise money for the restoration of the Ticknor-Campbell farmhouse. A 50 cent donation is requested for the drawing for a penny-wooden doll complete with 1820's wardrobe. The display, which will be open from 1 to 5p.m. each day, is sponsored by the Ann Arbor Doll Collectors club. As well as dolls which date back to the early 1800s, there will also be other doll-related items on display.

A former underground railway tunnel for escaped slaves? That's what David Byrd of the Black Economic Development League (BEDL) says has been uncovered at the BEDL building site on Depot Street at the Broadway Bridge. The discovery was made while footings were being dug for the building which will be used for offices and spaces for classes in such subjects as photography, printing and drafting.
