NEW LOOK -- Elks Pratt Lodge 322 at 220 Sunset Road is wearing a new look these days. The entire first floor has been remodeled with a new bar, new interior, reflective ceiling and booths, and lodge members (left to right) Jim Crawford, James Parker, Bob Jones and Herb Ellis find the results pleasing. But the improvements are not confined to the first floor. Other floors are being redecorated, landscaping is planned, and additional parking will be provided. The lodge also plans to expand its youth program. (News photo by Larry E. Wright)

NO WEAPON NEEDED FOR 'POSSUM HUNTING: Osmon Grider, 1124 Ann St., doesn't need a gun when he goes 'possum hunting. Grider was driving along the river road Monday night when the full-grown opossum he is holding so gingerly crossed the road in front of his car. Mr. Grider stopped his automobile and nabbed Mr. 'Possum with his bare hands. He swears that 'possums are harmless if you know how to catch them but judging by the display of teeth and claws this specimen is making, we prefer to do our 'possum hunting with a gun.

"BERTHA" PAID HER WAY: Although she's not registered, this grade Jersey on the Henry J. Oulmann farm, S. State Rd., has a name. "Bertha" produced more butterfat last year than any other cow on test with the two county herd improvement associations. Her total was 673.9 pounds. Although her milk production - 10, 935 pounds - was less than a number of other cows, she filled enough milk bottles to keep a small family healthy for four or five years.
