ALL-SOLDIER CHOIR OF COMPANY A REHEARSES FOR CONCERT: Army men of the soldiers' chorus of Company A spend an average of three hours a week rehearsing under Bill Sawyer's direction for a concert they will give on Aug. 15 in Hill auditorium. In addition to the summer concert, the men will present songs and skits on Army life in a half-hour radio program over WJR this Saturday and again on Aug. 7. A large percentage of the men were members of the chorus when Company A presented its musical comedy, "Nips in the Bud" in the spring. In the above picture Bill Sawyer is shown at the right directing the chorus in one of the songs being prepared for the Aug. 15 concert.

By coincidence, the twins were born on Dec. 13 - their father's 46th birthday. The family lives at 3750 Arkona Rd., Saline.

GLASS POULTRY HOUSE: This glass block poultry house on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pryce on Huron River Dr., five miles east of Ann Arbor, represents a development in the construction of chicken homes with an eye to increasing egg production. The lights are turned on at 5 a.m., and the glass walls admit most of the natural light during the day without being transparent. The Pryce's 200 White Leghorns have jumped their production from two dozen eggs a day to six dozen in three weeks in their new home.

Loving and Learning: At the Conference on Aging at the University of Michigan earlier this week the seniors and the children in Carol Tice's Pittsfield Elementary School art program did their thing completely undistracted by the hubbub around them. In photo at left, senior citizens Albert Thompsen, left, and GIlbert Pitts, far right, do woodworking with students Tim Zeigler, Greg Turner and Kevin Patterson. Below, student Bernice Reddie and senior citizen Bernadine Wimpee work with yarn in a little world of their own. Some 35 senior citizens came to Pittsfield School twice a week last year to work with the children. This year, says Mrs. Tice, the seniors can hardly wait to get started and the kids came to school the first day asking, "When are the seniors coming?"

PICKETS TIE UP TELEPHONE SERVICE: Approximately 50 operators, Western Electric technicians and building trade workers assembled outside the Michigan Bell Telephone Co. building on E. Washington St. this morning as members of Division 44 of the Communications Workers of America went on a scheduled 12-hour strike to protest delays in the current management-union wage negotiations. Picket lines were set up in front of the office entrance and the entrance to the construction job, halting both operators and plumbers, iron workers, masons and carpenters working on the new $450,000 telephone company addition.

This crash claimed the lives of a Saline man and his son yesterday at Ann Arbor Municipal Airport. State Police identified the victims as Royce W. Gilbert, 43, and his son, Gary, 16. The plane crashed in a woods south of the airport after first bouncing off the runway of the airport, breaking off both wheels. Witnesses said the plane was on fire as it went down. Gilbert was a commercial pilot who had moved to the area about two months ago.

Employed at Edwards Bros., Inc., Guarino has been forced from his job by a back ailment for the last two months. In that time, he has mended more than 200 electric trains - and is at his bench 14 and more hours a day now to get 'em all rolling by Christmas.
